The Escambia Financial Stability Coalition mission is:
To help area residents improve their financial condition.
There are three primary ways in which we do that.
- Outreach and promotion develops methods, materials and outlets to get the information and word out into the community.
- Free electronic filing of low to moderate personal income tax returns at VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) sites set up and staffed by IRS trained and certified volunteers coordinated by the Coalition.
- Workshops and Classes for the real money basics of developing a spending plan, understanding loans and credit, planning and saving for unexpected or large expense items like auto repair, medical bills, education, buying a home or taking a vacation as well how to avoid the money trap of predatory lending. These workshops are held at open community sites or at individual businesses to help their employees. Workshops are open and available for all area residents.
Michael Thornton, CPA and partner, Brown Thornton Pacenta & Company, PA., is the volunteer Champion of the Financial Stability Coalition.
